In a new publication in the American Journal of Clinical and Experimental Urology, the laboratory of Dr. Chad Vezina (UW O’Brien Center Associate Director) explores the impact of E.coli infection on inflammation, prostatic collagen abundance, and voiding function and demonstrates that recurrent intermittent infections with uropathogenic E.coli result in more severe inflammation and prostate fibrosis than single infections. Additionally, they show that the physical act of catheter placement is a risk factor for future infection.
